The Mini Lop rabbit originated in Germany in the 1970s, bred by Herr Bruckner from a cross between a German Lop and a small Chinchilla rabbit. The goal was to create a smaller version of the French Lop with a compact, cuddly appearance. The breed was later refined in the United States, gaining official recognition by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) in 1980. Today, the Mini Lop is one of the most popular domestic rabbit breeds, beloved for its gentle nature and distinctive floppy ears.

Physical Characteristics

Mini Lops are small, muscular rabbits with a compact body and a broad head. They typically weigh between 3 to 6 pounds (1.4–2.7 kg), with females slightly larger than males. Their most distinctive feature is their long, floppy ears that hang down along the sides of the head. The ears can reach up to 5 inches in length. The coat is short, dense, and soft, known as "rollback" fur, meaning it returns to its original position when stroked against the grain.
